Cool. Very helpful. My only gripe is that the translation within the interlinear part takes too many liberties with interpretation rather than giving it to you raw; the good thing is that there are G/K numbers and a G/K lexicon in the back so that YOU can decide how YOU'D prefer to interpret the verses; at the same time, the Mounce the elder does a nice job of interpreting, too, and I find myself falling back on his interlinear interpretation about half the time anyway. This is excellent if you have the time and patience to take something like a piece of folded up paper as a bookmark and cover up the English to test yourself once you've checked each word in the lexicon (timely process but really pays off - besides, it's the WORD, man, what's the rush when you got all your life, right?). Definitely recommended.

This interlinear was produced by Bill Mounce with considerable help from his father Robert. It uses the original Greek word order but Robert has inserted the English translation of the words where they would be in normal writing. I find this works very well. The NIV and NASB translations are also given for comparison. Each Greek word used is given its GK number (see The NIV Exhaustive Bible Concordance, Third Edition: A Better Strong's Bible Concordance). At the end of the book there is a Greek-English dictionary of each word which shows how it is translated in other parts of the New Testament.More detail can be found inMounce's Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words. There is even more information in New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology: Abridged Edition. The first line is the original Greek word. The second is the English translation and the third the G/K number. The fourth line gives you the case, number and gender of the noun, or the person, number, tense, voice and mood of the verb. Bill Mounce is the President and Founder of Biblical Training and he also has a helpful web site. Those who do not require such an advanced interlinear should consider Interlinear for the Rest of Us: The Reverse Interlinear for New Testament Word Studies. The book is 24 cm high, 20 cm deep , 6 cm wide and weighs 2.22 KG. There are 1,200 pages and the print is small but I think Zondervan have achieved the right balance to keep the size manageable. I would have preferred to purchase a Kindle edition so I could use it at church on my tablet.

I've been pretty happy with it so far. It was one of only two highly recommended Interlinear Bibles according to consumer reviews and the other one in NKJ version was out of print and getting very expensive if you wanted it in new condition hardbound. The used one of that edition was in not advertised condition, so I sent it back, and I bought this one instead. I have to say, I like it, the dictionary at the back is very useful as is having both translations of NASB, NIV, and the current Interlinear version. Its also nicely bound and will give you many years of service, so I highly recommend it, especially for the money.

The format of this New Testament is really useful. I'm an ordinary woman who doesn't know Greek, but I enjoy digging in a bit for a better understanding of God's word. If I had a vote, there'd be just one thing I would change: in place of the NIV text on the left column of each page, I would prefer another version such as the ESV. It's a small disappointment because the NASB is on the right.

I purchased this book about a month ago and have used it extensively ever since. The text has a three column format: a narrow column with the NIV on the left, a narrow column with the NASB on the right, and a large central column containing the Greek / English interlinear. The interlinear is very well done. It is a pure interlinear (word for word correspondence and not a reverse interlinear), but it also complements the pure interlinear with a slightly different font which adds phrases in a more readable English word order. The result is that the interlinear can be read either in a strict Greek to English word for word correspondence or as fluid English phrases. Under each Greek word is a grammatical key as well as a number that corresponds to the Greek dictionary in the back of the volume. Mounce uses numbers that are different than the traditional Strong's numbers, but the Strong's number is given in the definition for those who might use other tools that are indexed to Strong. One of the most helpful features is a listing in the dictionary of a small number of other references in which the Greek word is used. While not exhaustive, I found this to be a useful short list which offers the opportunity get a quick snapshot of how the word is used in other passages. The only downside is size - while not much larger than a large bible, it is bulkier than a simple Greek text or compact interlinear (great size for the bookshelf or study, but a little large if you are in the habit of carrying both a full size bible and an interlinear). In summary, if I wanted to study the New Testament and could only have one book, I would choose this one. FYI - a little background on me to put this review in perspective. I took Greek in seminary several years ago. I remember key concepts, but am not able to read the pure Greek text without assistance. This book is perfect for those with a Greek level similar to mine. I would think it would be helpful to a purist as well, though some may find it a bit cluttered with superfluous information.
