This is the first comprehensive directory to document many of the founders and leaders of what is now often referred to as the second wave of feminism, between 1963 and 1975. It includes biographical sketches of about 2,200 individuals, mostly women, who reignited the women's movement of the early twentieth century and managed to make permanent changes in customs and laws. The biographical sketches represent many factions, all parts of the country, all races and ethnicities, and many political ideologies. Editor Love has worked as an editor, writer, and journalist, and she is currently on the board of the Veteran Feminists of America (VFA), a nonprofit organization for veterans of the second wave of the feminist movement. Alphabetically arranged, each entry includes a brief description of the role the person played in the movement. Entries include such diverse persons as authors, members of rock bands like Deadly Nightshade, sociologists, politicians, NOW leaders, and cartoonists. Much of the information was supplied by the subjects themselves, and all biographies were sent to the subjects for approval. There are a small number of black-and-white photographs in the center of the book; the only thing that could have made the book better would have been pictures of all the people included. The name index at the end of the volume includes not just the names of the people profiled in the sketches but also other people mentioned in those sketches. Although numerous other works cover individuals who were active in the movement, there does not appear to be any other work that chronicles so many of the people who were active over this course of time. Significant Contemporary American Feminists: A Biographical Sourcebook (Greenwood, 1999) offers a small sampling of the women in the current volume. Well written and easy to use, this encyclopedia is recommended for all academic libraries and large public libraries; there really is no other publication with the same scope. About the Author

William Glover received his B.B.A. from the University of Mississippi in 1973 and his J.D. from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1976. He joined the firm of Wells Marble & Hurst in May 1976 as an Associate and became a Partner in 1979. While at Wells, his practice involved real estate commercial loan transactions, employment law cases, estate administration and general commercial law. He joined the faculty of Belhaven University, in Jackson, MS, in 1996 as Assistant Professor of Business Administration and College Attorney. While at Belhaven he taught Business Law and Business Ethics in the BBA and MBA programs; Judicial Process and Constitutional Law History for Political Science Department); and Sports Law for the Department of Sports Administration. As College Attorney he dealt with Real Estate and Employment Law issues, including matters before the Office of Civil Rights of the Department of Education. He left Belhaven in 2004 for a short stay at Wells Marble & Hurst, PLLC, as General Counsel and then joined the staff of US Legal Forms, Inc., in January of 2007, where he drafts forms, legal digests, and legal summaries. He is also a COL in the Mississippi State Guard.

I have been hearing of essential oils for several years, but didn’t really understand what all the excitement was about. Then I got ahold of Essential Oils for Beginners, which really helped me to understand what an essential oil is, what it’s good for, and how to use it. The book is very easy to read and understand for a newbie like me, yet it doesn’t “talk down” to the reader. Anyone, from a beginner like me, to someone who regularly uses essential oils can benefit from all the information in this book. It tells all about the various oils, what plants they come from, how to apply the oils, and what ailments or other issues they are good for. It also tells you how not to use the oils, and how to use them carefully for the desired results. There are also around fifty recipes for blending oils for various uses that will be very helpful. The section detailing each plant, what part is used for oil extraction, and photos of each plant was of particular interest to me as a beginner. The book is clean, well laid out, and usefully organized. If you’re interested in essential oils, you should get this book.

I was happy to see that Mary Jones has written another book on essential oils. I had read her book, “Essential Oils for Dogs,” and found it to be informative, well-written and well-organized. Her “Essential Oils for Beginners: The Where To & How To Guide For Essential Oil Beginners” has all those same attributes, but it is written with humans as its focus, and it goes into more detail that pertains just to humans.The format of this beginners’ book makes for a very quick read – from the general introductory material about essential oils, their history and how and why they work, to the more detailed chapters on the top 15 essential oils you can use in aromatherapy and the top 30 all-around essential oils, to the very helpful glossary of essential oil terms that comes toward the end of the book.I also found very helpful the book’s links to several videos. Sometimes it’s good just to listen to someone talk and watch a demonstration so you don’t wear your eyes out from reading text.Last weekend, I attended a baby shower for a friend who is about to have her first baby. She is quite nervous, but thanks to the chapter entitled “50 Little Known Essential Oil Recipes,” I now know what I am going to give her as a post-baby shower gift. I am going to make up a diffusing blend of lavender, frankincense, ylang ylang, and Roman chamomile to ease her labor pains. From what I read in the chapter on aromatherapy, diffusing that scent in my friend’s hospital room may have the added effect of protecting her from those airborne infections so prevalent in hospital settings.I have been having a bit of a problem lately with my memory, so when I saw in one of the introductory chapters that essential oils may be used to help with memory loss, I put in a search for “memory” so I could find out more. What I discovered is that rosemary is the essential oil to use for memory loss. Not only that, but it also helps to soothe aching, cramping muscles. So, I’m adding rosemary oil to my list.I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn how to safely and inexpensively use essential oils to, among other things, ease pain, enhance brain performance, protect the heart, and prevent infection.

I'd whip up the weight loss blend if I had the ingredients right now. And the most common mistakes are also mentioned.The book ends with a very useful glossary and FAQ section.I recommend you read this book if, like me, you've only just begun showing an interest in essential oils. A must to those taking up educational theories class. Noddings is a master in this field and has drawn the breath and width to provide a basis in philosophical approach to education. She has a record in writing such critical thinking topics and debates justifying her place as a well known emeritus professor. I enjoy her consistencies in current issues that at times rebutt older philosophies of education putting us forward to current thinking.

Amazing book; re-shaped everything I thought I knew about the volkswagen's origin. I had just finished reading a library copy, and I wanted to own a copy to pore over the many outstanding illustrations. Well-written but extremely detailed. Looks like Schilperoord wanted to provide ALL the details so this book would not need to be re-written again later. The slowly progressing, detailed description of a gifted Jewish engineer during the Nazification of Germany was fascinating, even if I didn't care about the cars. I admit, my assumption was that after the war everything just got rebuilt and the country got a "do-over". I had never considered what happened to patents and inventions which had been legally confiscated from Jewish citizens after those laws were eventually revoked. Ganz had to fight and fight to get any of the compensation that was due. (e.g. a royalty on every car produced with his patented swing-arm, tubular chassis rear-engined design) And all the bad guys who didn't get hanged (which was most of them) were still fighting to keep their ill-gotten gains. He sued one of the companies who sold many cars based on his designs, and they counter-sued for the defamation he had caused them by suing them! This book, (along with /They Thought They Were Free/) paints an amazing picture of what it's like to live in a country as it descends into fascism.Highly recommended! But buy it from someone other that this seller, who couldn't be bothered to even put the book in the mail for three weeks.

I am a car nut. I enjoy cars. I have owned many and have 7 at the present time, because there is not room for more.I purchased this english translation after reading the original issue in Dutch.Nothing is lost in translation. Ludwinka the designer of the rear engined Tatra has often been credited with developing the original VW concept, and then having it stolen by Porsche. VW actually paid Tatra damages for this alledged theft. However none of that story is as well documented, as conclusively proven, via copies of articles, blueprints, drawings and innumerable other concrete and indisputable facts such as photographs, as the contents of this book. Joseph Ganz was a genius and obviously a fanatic about his swing axle rear-engined motorcar design. Although he published a magazine that carried every thought he ever had about anything automotive, and most of those thoughts were derogatory ones about the lackluster and statusquo designs of the then major european motor car manufacturers of that time, none would so much as even look at his novel and brilliant rear engined vehicle design with fully indepent suspension.So as any fanatic would when his ideas are held up for public ridicule and the ravings of an idiot, he set out to build his own prototype in the shop of a benevolent and willing carmaker. He built his car from full sized drawings and within a few months had built a fully functioning vehicle exactly like the concept he had written and spoken about for at least a decade. He called the little car MayBug, because it was small and the shape resembled a small bug. His idea and his creation were presented to Hitler; unfortunately Ganz was a Jew. He managed to escape, but the design took form via the People's car. The story is amazing and almost unbelievable, and then there are the photo's the reprints of the articles he wrote and it believeable again. This man, by himself, with only a drafting table and his brains and some incredible engineering skills fully developed a functional vehicle design. No laboratories, no test mules, no design budget, NOTHING but brains and fanatical belief in his concept. It is book about history of the period just before Hitler became Chancellor of Germany and WWII, it is a book about a young man with a dream and it is absolutely one of the most fascinating automotive stories ever told. Now I can say that I know the real history of the Volkswagen. A well written and well researched book that for the first time tells the story of the Volkswagen and it's originator, Josef Ganz. Josef was a Hungarian Jew and a whiz at all things technical, especially when it came to one of his pet projects which was a dream to build a car. Not just a car though, but a certain type of car. Unfortunately for Josef, while he was in the midst of creating his dream vehicle, the country of Germany was where he lived. When the Nazi's came along in the 1930's Josef was one of their prime targets. This was a great book, I gave it four stars only because some of the technical information becomes a bit long winded. I'm glad I know the real history of this beloved car and of Josef Ganz who saw his dream come true and then watched it slip away.

The mainstream story is always the accepted story, however the real origins reveal the truth. The author researched the life of Josef Ganz quite well, establishing that his idea was the impetus to bring forth a volkswagen, a people's car. He was in the right place at the wrong time, due to the turmoil of anti-semitism in Nazi Germany. At least Ganz survived and was able to continue his life's passion as best as he could. I am a VW enthusiast, having owned many air cooled examples in my collection through the years, with The Thing as my overall favorite. I have always gone with the Porsche origin story. The book is an excellent read, recommended for any person with interest in VW and automotive history. I'm glad to read the true story behind the story!

A good resource for the original person with the idea for the VW who had to flee Germany because he was a Jew. Someone else later got the job to complete Hitler's plan for the "people's car."

Most interesting and certainly nullifies the belief that Porsche invented/created all the things mentioned in the book. Rare and good information....and true,
