This book was not at all what I was expecting, but contains some good advice that many would benefit from. For some background, my wife and I are relatively young and have career jobs. I bought this book for information on making the most of any extra income, learning more about investing strategies, options for generating passive income, and improving my personal finances. I did learn a few things, but not on these topics (maybe a bit on the last point). The book primarily focuses on interesting finds and anecdotes from the authors' years of research on millionaires in America. The book is divided into eight chapters:1. Meet the Millionaire Next Door2. Frugal Frugal Frugal3. Time, Energy, and Money4. You Aren't What You Drive5. Economic Outpatient Care6. Affirmative Action, Family Style7. Find Your Niche8. Jobs: Millionaire vs. HeirsThe author essentially splits everyone into two categories: Underaccumulators of Wealth (UAWs) and Prodigious Accumulators of Wealth (PAWs). UAWs have a low net worth relative to income, and the opposite for PAWs and uses these terms throughout the book. His primary argument is that PAWs get to be wealthy by living well below their means - these are people who do not look like millionaires, they live in modest neighborhoods, drive domestic sedans, wear a Timex, and usually have a blue-collar job that does not come with an expensive lifestyle associated and as a result can accumulate a sizeable nest egg. On the other hand, UAWs are typically well-educated professionals with high paying and high profile jobs (doctors, attorneys), but due to societal pressures associated with their social standing are forced to squander all their money living in luxury neighborhoods, driving German cars, and sending their kids to private schools. Their expensive lifestyle means that they spend most of their income and as a result have a low net worth, despite outward appearances.I agree that this is good advice for just about anyone: live below your means and prioritize financial security over social standing. Growing up in a single-income family living in a modest middle class neighborhood, I'm quite used to the live-below-your-means philosophy and I think it gave me at least some sense of good financial discipline. If my parents are any indication, it works great.Where the authors really lost my interest is that the rest of the book is chock full of anecdotes and some rather uninformative statistics to drive a few other points home. While some of these are good points and undoubtedly useful, they always seem to come with caveats or don't draw any real conclusion, which I found frustrating. Most of the points could have been made succinctly in about 1/10 the amount of page space the authors dedicate to them. These include:- Most millionaires in America are self employed business owners, because they run their personal finances like their business finances. However, going into business for yourself is very risky so we don't really recommend that as a viable way to get rich.- Very few millionaires have ever spent much money on a nice suit, pair of shoes, or luxury watch. They usually live in modest neighborhoods or rural areas where the cost of living and social pressures of consumerism are lower.- First generation millionaires (often immigrants) tend to be succeeded by children with financial struggles, since the parent's desire to "give them a better life" pushes them into careers where they become UAWs, and their upbringing in our consumerist culture impedes their ability to live frugally. But even if it turns them into UAWs, encourage them to go to college and aspire to a while-collar professional job.- Parents giving money to their children develops and reinforces poor financial habits. This money is almost always immediately spent, and these children generally have no savings since they are looking to their parents as their safety net and counting on an inheritance. Doing things like buying children a house in an upscale neighborhood or sending grandkids to a private school actually makes the children worse off, since they have to spend more to maintain the associated lifestyle.- The authors spend an inordinate amount of time and space comparing different careers, which I found next to useless since I'm very happy with my chosen career (Engineer) and have no intention of changing. They continually deride pretty much every professional job you can think of, and simultaneously praises how great working for yourself or owning a business is while going on about how difficult and risky it is to actually own a successful business. The author does not recommend changing careers, but again, this is more of a discussion of what their research has shown than any sort of "how to" advice.- Car buyers fall into four categories: whether you buy new or used, and whether you buy from the same place or shop around. The authors devote an entire chapter to this while only coming to the following conclusions: no method of buying a car is the clear winner, but if you own a business you may benefit from your connections with the owners of car dealerships; and most millionaires drive unassuming domestic (and to a lesser extent, Japanese) cars purchased new or lightly used.A final note - curiously, I found no mention of anything real-estate related, which to me is highly unusual in any sort of book about building wealth. The only investment advice found here is in the final chapter and could be summarized as "invest in what you know." That is, if you work in a certain sector, your knowledge of the industry will help you make good investment decisions. Not sure how I feel about this one. For example: not working in technology doesn't mean blue-chip tech stocks are a bad investment. Take it with a grain of salt. One last complaint: most of the financial figures are presented in mid-1990s dollars. I found it frustrating to have to mentally convert to today's dollars to get a relative sense. The authors took the time to update the preface in 2010, it would have been nice to see a revision to the figures quoted throughout the book. (For reference, one 1996 dollar is worth about 1.6 dollars in 2017).In summary, I was surprised about the amount of praise heaped on this book. I would hardly categorize it as a self-help book, it's more a retrospective on the authors' research and a collection of anecdotes and interesting conclusions about the countless Americans leading unglamorous lives while accumulating appreciable amounts of wealth. It's a quick read and I made it through the whole book on a 5-hour flight with time to spare. I would only recommend this book as an interesting overview of some good financial habits, or as an eye-opener for those with luxurious financial tendencies who struggle to save money despite their income level. However, for those who have already developed some discipline and are looking for detailed strategies and advice on personal finance and building wealth via investments and generating passive income, look elsewhere.

This is such an inspiring read because it shows almost anyone can become a millionaire if you live below your means and invest well. I love that the majority of millionaires are people you'd never suspect because they don't live flashy lives in big houses with high-status toys abounding. If you make $200,000 a year, but spend $220,000, you're in trouble. But if you make $50,000 a year and live on $35,000, investing the rest, over time you're going to be in great shape.I grew up in a super-affluent suburb. My friends' lived in big houses and mansions with luxury cars and country club memberships. We lived in one of the smallest houses in the suburb. My mom was so frugal. I thought it was such a drag!! But when she died (too young), she'd saved enough so that my dad, who lived another 30-some years, was comfortable in retirement. I wonder now if any of my high school friends' parents were actually living on the edge in trying to keep up with the Joneses.Years ago, I used to charge like crazy. Now I save like crazy, just like my mom.

In a word, this book was fascinating. In summary, this book was essentially a long stream of curated data distilled into a finely tuned narrative that I just couldn't put down.At first glance, the title "The Millionaire Next Door" might sound like some trashy novel just begging for glamour and it's 15 minutes in the spotlight, but this couldn't be further from the truth. I assume most people, when they think of the world 'millionaire,' they think of a high class, high consumption lifestyle full of limitless indulgence. However, Thomas Stanley goes through great length in this book to show precisely why this isn't so. Through countless interviews and a vast list of data, Stanley pulls together that the average millionaire is anything but the cocaine-induced celebrity so often featured in mainstream media.Quite the opposite, being an average millionaire is within reach of just about everyone. The American Dream is alive and well, but only for those who are willing to sacrifice. It's kinda funny in a sense. This book put into words and data a lot of things I noticed growing up. I've always said that there are two ways to have more money: make more or spend less, and I prefer to do both. As it turns out, most millionaires feel the same way, and they invest their savings into appreciating assets rather than depreciating assets, like real estate and stocks/bonds as opposed to clothing and cars. The average millionaire doesn't reach such a status until late in life, and inheriting large sums of money more often than not dooms any developing child to a life of high-spending with few fulling achievements.I could go on, but it's really pointless. In a way, Thomas is simply a messenger, presenting the data he found in an easy to follow format that drives home a list of bullet of points. However, despite this, I still found this book amazing and uplifting, because the message it presents is exceptionally hopeful and inspiring. Everyone should read this book, to help themselves and their finances, because there are no second chances when it comes to time and money.

This pretty much supports everything that Dave Ramsey says about the differences between those who truly are wealthy and those playing the part. If you want to be wealthy, do what wealthy people do! This has nothing to do with luck, or being an entrepreneur (although it doesn’t hurt) but living below your means, having a budget, investing and not trying to impress people you don’t like with money you don’t have! Every now and again on the Dave Ramsey podcast he hosts the millionaire theme hour and it is really inspiring to note that the majority of millionaires he interviews are regular “blue collar” people. They live in our neighborhoods, drive used cars and work at our companies, hence “the millionaire next door!”

Review of the English translation of Asma Lamrabet’s book, Le Coran et les femmes: une lecture de liberation.I want to start this review of the English translation of Asma Lamrabet’s book, Le Coran et les femmes: une lecture de libération, by putting my cards on the table. First, I know the author well, and have a great deal of respect and affection for her, as a scholar and a friend. Second, I have read the book in its original French version as I have read several others of Lamrabet’s excellent books. Third, my primary reason for buying the English translation of the book (available at Amazon) was to assess the quality of the translation before recommending it to English language readers.I started reading the rather long introductory chapter (24 pages in the French version, 19 in the English) with both versions in hand, paragraph by paragraph, always starting with the French. When I finished, I re-read the chapter in its entirety, in both French and English. Afterwards, I continued with the English translation, but going back to the original French, as needed. The translator, Myriam François-Cerrah, has done a remarkable job translating a somewhat difficult book to capture, and I applaud her efforts. In my view, the English version would have been much stronger had Ms. Cerrah tried to convey the essence of the text rather than seeming to be primarily concerned with the transmission of the meaning of just about every word, resulting in the book appearing rather repetitive at times, especially to the English-language ear. Having said that, the English translation of this important book is not only worth reading but is a must read for Anglophones interested in the position of Women in Islam as portrayed by Islam’s holiest book, the Qur’an.Herself a devout Muslim, Dr. Lamrabet is among the most knowledgeable contemporary Muslim scholars, the majority of whom are men. With remarkable skill and delicacy, Dr. Lamrabet discusses the status of women in Islam, held a hostage by two opposing but equally extreme perspectives – one rigid conservative Islamic, the other western, ethnocentric, islamophobic – pointing out that despite their great differences, they always end up at the same impasse, generated by each side’s equally impaired vision, thus rendering a meaningful dialogue between the two camps virtually impossible.Rather than being satisfied with criticizing the West for its poor portrayal of Muslim women, Dr. Lamrabet, in a radical departure from what she refers to as centuries-old, unchallenged parochial interpretations of the Qur’an, interpretations that have become almost a part of the “sacred,” hence absolute, thus copiously sheltered from critical examination and reflexion, she urges learned Muslims, men and women, to differentiate the “Sacred” from the “interpretation of the Sacred.”Dr. Lamrabet laments the inclination of Muslims and non-Muslims alike to embrace human, hence forcibly subject to error interpretations that have contributed to the thriving of a culture that devalues women, rather than staying steadfast to the meaning of the Divine. She affirms that, as believers, Muslims, women and men, are entitled to question the common assertion that only men have the authority and the right to interpret the pronouncements of God. This leads her to probe the logic behind the absence of even a single exegesis (tafseer) by a Muslim woman, throughout the long history of Islam! Here, she promptly stresses that the endgame of her book is not the promotion of an exclusive feminine interpretation, at the expense of centuries-old classical exegesis, or to deny the extremely rich legacy of classic exegesis, essential for any in-depth study of the Text, or to marginalize it. Rather, it is to unveil the historical preconceptions and discriminations against women, instituted by flawed human interpretations of the Sacred Text.Referring her readers back to the Sacred Text, Dr. Lamrabet questions deep-rooted understandings in the Judeo-Christian-Islamic tradition, including the assertion of woman’s inferiority in relation to man, using as evidence the understanding that Woman was created from Adam’s rib, that Eve is the leading cause of Adam’s expulsion from heaven, and that Woman was created for his pleasure. Dr. Lamrabet argues that there are no verses in the Qur’an that support such interpretation. As I said above, Dr. Lamrabet’s book is essential for a better understanding of the role of women in the Qur’an. For Anglophone readers, Myriam François-Cerrah’s translation of Le Coran et les femmes: une lecture de libération is a very good facilitator of such understanding.Muneera Salem-MurdockWashington DC

Translation made reading very choppy

Women in the Qur'an by Asma Lamrabet translated by Myriam Francois-Cerrah is a VERY bold read. This book of 177 pages is divided in an introductory section, a part one that deals with 'When the Qur'an speaks OF women' and a part two 'When the Qur'an speaks TO women.'The author Asma Lamrabet is a pathologist in Morroco's Avicenna Hospital. She's also an award winning author of many articles tackling Islam and Women's issues. On the other hand, the translator, Myriam Francois-Cerrah is a writer, broadcaster and academic with a focus on current affairs, France, Islam and the Middle East. She writes for many accredited news magazines and channels like Al Jazeera English. To continue, I found this read particularity bold and daring because it's a tafsir-exegesis- of the holy verses we have been exposed to all our lives about the women we already know but by a women's perspective that is very dismissive of many popular and biased male's interpretations of the Qur'an which at some point were deeply ingrained to us as a collective as the norm for nearly 15 centuries. Some of the women cited are Awa (as), Bilqis (as), Maryam (as), Hagar (as), Sarah (as). You get the gist, women after which great miracles were bestowed upon, holy rituals were fashioned after or great doom descended upon because of their betrayal such as the wives of prophets Lut and Noah (as).I'm sure there is a history of books that critically interpret the scriptures from a women's perspective but this is the first one I read. I have always thought that certain religious Muslim men since the time of rassullulah sallalahu aleihi wassalam to today were and are bonified dictators, patriarchs, and who could never see a woman as their equal even if their faith in Allah and Islam were/are steadfast. It's an oxymoron indeed. Thus, I'm sure many of them made sure to reduce the meaning of certain verses pertaining to fairness and equality toward women. I also have this strong feeling that many works by Muslim women weren't promoted and subsequently died out or weren't preserved the same way men's works and stories were. It's a shame. Now, did I find Women in the Qur'an blasphemous at times? Yes! But is that because I have never challenged and critically analyzed my past exegeses about women in the Qur'an written by prominent Muslim scholars? Probably. The book is thought provoking, makes many valid points, and also supports exegeses by Muslim men who support Lamrabet's point of views. With all that being said, this book is needed because no matter how much the Qur'an and the Sunnah vouch for an equality between the sexes, for the fair treatment of women, for the inclusion of women in social events, the reality on the terrain is different. There is a big majority of Muslim women who are still oppressed by imposed and cultural patriarchal ways when it should be the Muslim woman's choice to decide to work, to go pray at the mosque, to have children when in a marriage, to accept or refuse a suitor, to pick her own husband, to wear hijab, to be educated, etc. Unfortunately many Muslim women can't escape their husbands and families (in-laws, biological or even elder non-relatives) making choices for them.I also believe that this wrong will be right as we all speak up and ask about a change like Lamrabet started. In my opinion, there is also a reason why women will start to outnumber men at the crack of doom; a thing that is already noticeable as the numbers of baby girls born are slightly over the baby boys born. Now, when the women have the majority, it's imperative to stay fair to men, to not act like non-Muslim feminists who can't seem to accept or recognize Muslim Feminists. Jahannam will have a larger number of women and I hope none of the ummah will dwell there because they left sirat-al mustakim.Furthermore, just because an increase of independent women is a sign of the end times, it doesn't mean women should be kept under a tight leash. I actually see men controlling everything a woman does as a way to stop times. I see it as a way to worship dunya. Everything has an expiration date and things will follow their course no matter what. It's the qadr of Allah. It's been written eons ago. Why fight it?**I received a free hard copy for my honest opinion**

Review

Praise for The Art of Invisibility"How would it feel to find out that your neighbor and friend has secretly observed you in your own home for years? The place that should be most private to you was not, and the intruder's devices themselves weren't something you'd ever have thought to look for. This kind of behavior is the opposite of giving normal people freedom and security, of valuing and respecting them as humans--and it's happening more and more. The answer to peeping eyes and cyber theft is to move society toward greater cyber-security and it all starts with essential education about being private and invisible in our daily lives. This is a very informative book. While I'm not looking to go underground or off- grid, I will be making changes to protect my privacy online. I was outraged by the decision made by our country's legislators to allow Internet providers to disclose and sell the online browsing histories of their customers, which could affect prospective jobs and insurance. For example, if you or your child have a health issue or disability, and you search the Internet for information, a prospective employer who has access to this browsing history could interpret this to mean you will take more time off from work, or be more of a liability with insurance. This is just one type of example the book brings up, among numerous other situations I would never have even thought about. Great book, and thank-you, Kevin Mitnick!

Where do I begin? I've been a computer geek my entire life. Well, since 1982, anyway. My dad bought me a Commodore 64 computer back then. I can't hardly remember a single day that has passed since then that I haven't had a computer in front of me at some point during the day. Heh, I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing!Anyway, as a developer and security enthusiast, I've always been interested in the hacking scene. Back then, when Kevin Mitnick and Kevin Poulson were in the news because of their "activities", I was glued to the t.v. I wanted to know everything they did! See, the thing is, I was like them. I craved knowledge. I wanted to explore that hidden and forbidden world of the byte and the baud that consisted of inter-connected mainframes and central stations via phone lines. I dialed into a lot of "boards" (BBSes) and got "forbidden knowledge" of what they used to call "phreaking" (phone hacking) from text files uploaded by phreakers. I thought it was just fun and games and never really did anything with the so-called "power" that I had gleaned from those text files.Fast forward to today, things are a lot worse, security-wise, with regards to computer security and threats to your private information. Especially since our daily lives are now entertwined with this ubiquitous thing called the internet. Every interaction we perform in our browsers, or internet-enabled applications, leaves information and trails that can be used against us. Our phones, even our automobiles, can be used to track us via GPS. Our credit card purchases can be used to build profiles of us that can be bought and sold to third party customers. Recently, the current U.S. Republican administration repealed a bill that would've prevented ISPs from selling your browsing information to private parties. Nothing you do online is private anymore. Nothing. This isn't like information that Facebook and Google collect on you. The ISP information is every single page that you go to in your browser. Think about this, for a moment: You have a medical condition. It's being treated and no one but your closest family knows about it. Like almost everyone with your condition, you browse online about it and have joined online support groups. Your child also suffers from a condition. They are autistic. Like almost any concerned parent, you look online to learn more about you child's condition and, too, to share your experiences and learn from others in similar situations. Recently, you've applied for a new job through a recruiter. They assure you that you're a perfect fit based on your resume and your phone screening interview with them. They want to pass your resume on to the company now, which you give your consent to do so. Now, the company that will be doing the hiring does something that, in the past, they couldn't have done: They buy your browsing history from your local ISP. They don't need your consent for this. Your browsing data is considered the ISPs property now and can be sold as a commodity that is tied directly to you. Your prospective employer can now see that, based on your browsing history, that you have a medical condition and a child with autism. Which, more than likely, means you will probably miss a lot of work. So, they do what any good business will do: They pass on your resume. You don't even get a chance to interview with them. Your resume gets deep-sixed based soley off your browsing history and nothing else. Now, with that nightmare scenario fresh in your head, I want you to understand that when I say this book can help you to avoid such a situation, I really mean it. From encrypting your email, to setting up a VPN, to using the anonymous Tor Onion browser and other security methods, this book can help someone that doesn't know anything about internet security by showing them how to secure their private information, their browsing habits, their email, and all online activity. Seriously, in this day and age, it's almost a sin not to be aware of at least the basic dangers out there in "cyberspace". With this book, you can be very sure that if you follow the steps provided, you'll be very secure from most of those threats.

This book addresses a great topic: The Art of Invisibility. The subtitle could have easily been: Why you do it, how you do it and what happens to you if you don’t do it.I’ve read all of Kevin’s books and I always keep a ballpoint pen and bright yellow marker at hand so that I can mark those special tidbits I want to remember, or refer back to at a later date. This book is so chucked full of information, I literally highlighted almost every paragraph and page. The theme of the book is that we are all being tracked. If you use email, you are being tracked. If you visit a website, you are being tracked. If you use a cell phone, or shop at the market, drive a car, use WiFi or have a refrigerator that’s hooked up to the Internet, you are most likely being tracked. Do you use a credit card with a little square, silver colored chip on it? Have you ever wondered how much personal information maybe on that chip? The author discusses all of these things and much more. If you don't like being tracked and want to learn how to become invisible, the author tells what to look for and how to harden your personal security in an effort to achieving that goal. In the end, however, he warns that becoming invisible is a very difficult task.I highly recommend this book.

****** Starts out with basic security info concepts and builds on that nicely. In two places you are referred to later chapters where the tool for spoofing the MAC address is never actually identified - so Google it! The book identifies and describes a lot of useful tools and techniques. I originally gave this a 4 - I had hoped to learn more from it. But I've just re-read it and pushed my rating from a 4 up to a 5 and wish I could give it a 6! I've been in security for quite a while and still learned a thing or two. When's the last time you enjoyed reading resource material? Great coverage of a great topic.

I'm a 20 year IT sys admin and this book was awesome. Much of this stuff I knew already but Kevin puts it together like nobody else can; moreover, he puts it together so anyone can understand. It's not just a book about how to become invisible to today's technology grid, it's the Bible of how you are being screwed and used by what you probably don't understand about your favorite gadget, app or appliance.I don't care if you don't know the difference between Outlook or AOL, you need to get this book and finish it. It might very well be the most important book you read in the next five years.

I bought this as a replacement for the copy I bought when I was in middle school many years ago. I've reread it so much it has fallen apart and my daughter has read it as well. A great story for children to learn a bit about WWII without scaring the living crap out of them. Rosemarie and her family are Dutch Jews and travel from camp to camp, hoping and waiting for a way out as Rosemarie grows from a naïve child to a brave young woman. Truly a great story of self-discovery in a world where you are told you don't matter.

I first read this book when I was in 6th grade. It was a good introduction to the Holocaust without going into gruesome detail. That sort of realization is best left to young adulthood. It was enough at the time that it was unfair, harsh and involved a girl my own age. Of course Moskin leaves out the worst. She understood she was writing for children. There are many incidents which very closely mirror other holocaust survivors' experiences. This book gave me the interest to look into the Holocaust further as I matured. I am grateful to the teacher who assigned this book when I was in middle school and opened a door to that which must not be forgotten without scaring me away from it.

I read this book when I was a young girl probably thirty years ago. My twelve year old read The Diary of Anne Frank, and was very interested in this genre. I remembered this book and she lived it as well, it has really stuck with us both, highly recommend.

I won I am Rosemarie in Primary School in a Book Week promotion. I loved the story as I was Rosemarie's age at the time. Over the years I moved several times and lost my copy. I was fortunate to find it at Amazon and the copy I received was in excellent condition for the price. My own daughters are reading it now.

I have met her son. So interesting

Marietta D. Moskin makes a note at the end of this novel stating that this story was an invention of her, the author. It is "a composite based on very real people who lived through all the things described in this book". Regardless of the fact that the main character Rosemarie may not have actually existed, all of the events this character suffered through did.The Jewish holocaust during World War II was a tragedy, and this novel captures the suffering and pain of those who survived to tell of what they endured. This book was masterfully written, and is a great supplement to history teachers everywhere who are teaching of World War II and the Jewish Holocaust. Even if you are not currently researching the Holocaust it is an eye opening book that I feel all should read. You will not only enjoy the author's writing, but it would be impossible to not take away a better understanding of the trials and tribulations of a people persecuted.

I first read this book in my late teens before having any extensive knowledge of World War II and Germany's concentration camps. This is the story of Rosemarie who is incarcerated during her teenage years in such a camp. It tells in detail the trials and hardships of her years here including transportation on the death trains, lack of food, sickness, death and the loss of friends. It is insightful without being overly scary and morbid. The ending is really luminous. It is a great read, much better than some of the required drivel HS students are made to read now.

I recieved this book in the eighth grade as a gift from my English teacher as she was retiring. It was supposed to be a book we were to read in class, but our curriculum was packed and we didn't have time so she offered it to those who were interested in extra reading in our free time. I am happy that I volunteered for this book. I have relatative who fought in WWII and placed many jews inside the concentration camps. It gave me the insight to see exactly what was going on inside these camps and what it did to the people there. This little girl talked about what it did to her family. They endured countless illnesses, crippling work and separation and yet she was able to find hope inside the many camps that she was transferred to. I believe that this is a great read, especially for young minds studying WWI and WWII. Now at the age of 25, my book finally fell apart and I am looking forward to buying a copy to add to my book collection. When my son gets old enough, I will have him read this book as well.

My whole family loves this book! We bought it for my 1-year old's birthday because she has recently developed an interest in pushing any and all buttons. She loves all the different animal sounds, and the little jingle that plays when the tractor button is pushed. My 3-year old likes this book too, she especially loves finding the right buttons depending on which animal we're talking about, and we all enjoy reading the short, fun story together and looking at the very cute illustrations.I definitely agree with the age recommendation of 2+. This book is quite large, so it's hard for my one-year old to hold it. Also, I think that a 2+-year old would be more able to appreciate the story, and not just the buttons with the animal noises. This was still a great gift that the whole family enjoys.

We had first seen this at a Barnes and noble and thought that our kid (21 months) would love the sounds and probably would be her favorite book. But this book did not catch the top spot for more than 2 months now. I am not sure why? Hopefully she will like it when she is bit older. I would suggest take your kid to Barnes and noble to let them explore before purchasing it. Every child has different tastes. We still think it's a good book.

This product is of poor quality. Three of the animal sounds do not work and the ones that work my child has to press very hard and the sound only last about 3 seconds. This is very frustrating for a young child. She quickly lost interest 😖

I bought this interactive book for my granddaughter who is 8 months old. She loved it. We would spend a lot of time, listening to the different animal sounds.

The book itself is nice. The batteries were installed , but it didn't work when you pushed the buttons. It is frustrating, especially since this was a birthday gift. I had to go buy new batteries for $6.40 when they should have worked already.

Ordered this as a Christmas gift for my 5 month old.. She's a little young for it, but it's already one of my favorites to read to her! The noises help to captivate her attention. I love that the tractor plays a little jingle. Wasn't what I expected when I hit the button.. Will likely order a few of the other sound books from this company.

My grandson loves this book when others doesn't keep his attention. The only disappointment was the tractor sound. Being farmers , I expected a motor sound, not a wimpy little tune.

I have 2 granddaughters under the age of 2. They both thoroughly enjoy this book. They like to point at the animal on the page and then find the matching animal so they can hear their sounds. Great, sturdy book for toddlers just beginning to talk.

I purchased this book thinking it was the definitive product on the market relating to the greatest team ever assembled. Truth is, it's not. While the book does give a lot of inside stories and tell you things you may not have known behind the scenes, it pushes more into the realm of an autobiography of Magic, Bird, Jordan, Barkley, and... if you can believe it... Isiah Thomas, who didn't even make the team.Sure there is a chapter here and there about Drexler or Stockton, but the majority of that information is how these players relate to the 5 listed above. There are nearly a dozen chapters talking about why Thomas didn't make the team and only one on Drexler making it as an add-on. You will wade through chapter after chapter about Magic and Bird and what their non-basketball lives were like to get to one chapter about the team playing basketball -- with a heavy focus on those two, Jordan, and Barkley.Maybe the author didn't get enough time with all of the Dream Team squad. From the writing, it certainly read that way. Or maybe he purposely kept to these 4 members so he can't speak about the others because he wasn't around them. Either way, there are many approaches to take when talking about the Dream Team and its 12 players; however, if you read this book you'll forget who at least 8 of them were and incorrectly assume Thomas was a member because there is so much focus about it.

I was finally able to pick up Jack McCallum's Dream Team book which was published in 2013. I've looked forward to this for quite a while and snagged a used book through Amazon. The book chronicles the 1992 Dream Team which allowed NBA players to participate in the Olympics for the first time as a reaction to college players not winning gold in the 1988 Seoul Olympics. McCallum doesn't disappoint as he chronicles the forming of the team, the behind the scenes that made that possible, the marketing, international impacts and most importantly the players themselves. From who wanted to be on the team, to who was selected and why, their relationships and stardom in Barcelona that transcended the lives these players already lived. I love the back stories the behind the scenes goodies and this book delivered.About the only thing this book won't provide is detailed analysis of the games themselves but they don't deserver to be front and center. They weren't as important as the players and the stories. The one game that stands out the most when the Dream Team is brought up is a scrimmage the team had which pitted Michael Jordan dueling Magic Johnson. That was more important than the drubbing the team laid upon opponent after opponent. Bottom line is I loved this book. If you are an NBA fan of any sort this is an easy read. The world's greatest players were on this team. All, sans college player Christian Laettner, were future hall of famers and had either led the revival of the NBA (Magic Johnson and Larry Bird) or helped build on the momentum through 1992. But not only were they great players, many were great personalities. Some were exactly as I've known (John Stockton, Chris Mullin) but some surprised me some (Patrick Ewing). It was great getting to know these players on a different level. McCallum spoke to every player, coach, executive, competitor, or other writers who could bring the story more to life. And it came together wonderfully. Every NBA fan needs to read this book.

As an avid basketball fan and player, I loved this book. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who has a love for the game. If you are not a basketball fan, this probably is not the book for you.Jack McCallum had the unique opportunity to ride along with the Dream Team through its wild ups and (very few) downs. His firsthand accord of what happened in practices, games, and locker rooms is fantastic. He obviously established personal relationships with most of the players on the team. I particularly enjoyed the chapters on Christian Laettner and Scottie Pippen. His details about the coaching staff (especially Coach K) kept me itching for more. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for a reporter, and McCallum perspicaciously soaked it all in.The writing in the book is very strong. His use of prose and varying sentence structure was refreshing. As a reader, you could tell this isnt the writer's first rodeo. The only thing I would change would be the length of the book. Certain chapters ran a little long, but didnt necessarily take away from the enjoyment of the book.

More than enough has been written, spoken and shown about the Dream Team. But this book captures the essence of what the experience was like to the players, the fans, the journalists, the invested and peripheral people and entities involved. The writing comes across as genuine and while there is most definitely a reverential tone in the pages that talk about Magic, Michael and Larry and a bit of the lovable goof with Sir Charles, there is also a realness to it....The fact that I refer to them all on a first name basis in the paragraph above is proof enough that the book engaged me and personalised many of the players involved and really make you as the reader feel that you are understanding these great athletes as people.

Absolutely one of the GREATEST BOOKS I've ever read. Stories, all the background information I never knew about the Dream Team and how it was constructed. Just fascinating to me, as I was a huge Bulls fans and was really just getting into basketball around this time. Isaiah Thomas really plays a factor in a book, interesting to see how it all plays out.
