This book gave me hope that if more people read her book, we might begin to quit shouting at one another across the ideological divide, look at the data, and begin addressing the actual sources of the reproductive wars.

She cuts past the questions about morality and religion to explain what will happen, concretely, if and when the courts ban abortion. As you know, we are now closer to that possibility than we’ve been in a long time. I would absolutely recommend this book for use with smart, engaged undergraduates; Oberman’s writing is crisp and her message is fresh, timely, and petrifying.

A truly inspiring and rare memoir of deliverance from seemingly utter despair, hopelessness, and addiction to astonishing triumph and sobriety. It's notably interesting to discover how John uniquely survived and made a life around homelessness and addiction for such a long period of time. John is a gifted writer, a truly amazing man and yes, a "Miracle".Absolutely worth a read!

This book is truly a wonderful read and heart-warming story. John manages to make us laugh, cry and most of all hope. Even if you haven't experienced or been affected by substance-abuse, it is a story of redemption, which we can all relate to. You will fly through this book!

A very moving and inspirational story about alcoholism, homelessness, and despair. The lifestyle of these folks is like living on another planet to most Americans, yet we see them, or try not to see them every day. Written with clarity, truth, and great courage by a guy who has truly hit bottom, but didn't stay there.

Couldn't put the book down. John seems to be a regular, lovable guy that gets caught up in the cycle of addiction and falls hard but rises above it all. This book made me feel more compassion for the homeless than I thought possible. His story is truly an inspiration. Having a family member as an addict, this book gave me an unique insight into the mind of how an addict justifies their behavior, and has helped me to feel more loving and less angry. It is a must read if you have an addict in your life.

A unbelievable story of redemption. His recovery from years as a homeless alcoholic to a successful civil engineer is truly awe inspiring. Tip of the hat to the author.

His question is answered by a surprise visit from an unknown cousin, a man named Francis Drake, who offers Emmet a place as a page on his ship. Emmet's life aboard the Pelican is extremely hard. He is small and ignorant of the ways of seafaring life, and has a difficult time adjusting to this strange, rough world. Captain Drake is a harsh taskmaster, and it isn't long before Emmet realizes that he is sailing with pirates and begins to think of a way to escape. Lawlor's novel is very different from most pirate stories, as Emmet sees nothing adventurous or glorious about this life. The tone is dark and grim, and there are scenes that might horrify younger readers. Sailor lingo and Spanish terms are sprinkled throughout with no help from a glossary. This book was not at all what I was expecting for a group read aloud for 8-12 year olds. The first few chapters were a totally different vibe than the rest of the book. I was not thrilled with there being an attempted rape scene and animal brutality (killed in anger/frustration-not for food or in self defense) to have to skim over or explain to the younger kids in the group. That being said, it was a fairly realistic portrayal of life at sea for pirates. Just not what I was looking for in a classroom setting.

I used this in my pre-school class and it was a fun way for the students to keep track of how much money Ruby and Max had. Good lesson wise spending and use of money. Deciding on what was a good choice. Good lesson on keeping some money in reserve for emergency. The class had fun adding and subtracting the money.

It's a cute story and my kids enjoy it. My only issue is with the play money. I'd prefer real looking money to help teach my kids about money but I suppose the ones provided are good enough to teach the concept. The story does at least teach kids that you have to watch your spending or you may not have enough left for what you wanted to buy. Also teaches compromise if you don't have enough money to buy what you want in the first place.

As usual there's a lesson to be learned for both bunnies in this charming book by Rosemary Wells. Ruby as usual has the role of Damage Control agent as Max gets into more situations that require them to spend their precious dollars before they can even think of getting Gma's birthday gift.It also spurred the development of a board game that builds on the whole idea of getting, earning, and spending money and learning bits of trivia about famous people. We loved them both.

Max and Ruby fans love seeing their TV companions presented in school curriculum.

The book came in great condition. Great story to teach kids about the importance of saving money.

I bought this because it's the first book my 5 yo brought home from his school library. He fell in love with it so I got it for him as a surprise. He's ecstatic about it. It's a cute book!

One of my daughter's all time favorite books.

This is the standard Little House on the Prairie book with the only difference being that the book is a hard back with dust cover and all of the illustrations by Garth Williams are in full color.You can certainly find the paperback version with the black and white illustrations more cheaply, but I wanted this particular version to read to my girls because I noted when I first started this series with them, the old fashioned language and concepts were hard to follow and they lost interests. The colored pictures seems to make the story more interesting for them, and they are more engaged. Not sure if this is really due to the pictures or completely random, but the book is beautifully done, and from a personal perspective, I really like it - I loved the series as a child, but had never seen the pictures in color - added a nice touch for me as the parent reading the book each night.

Bought this for long car rides -- so much better than a DVD! My 5, 12 and 17 year old all love it. The reader does a great job. She has a very clear voice and you really get into the story. She's not monotonous but also isn't overly theatrical. We have all really gotten engrossed in this story (which I didn't expect). I enjoy this greatly and enjoy that my kids are into it. My middle son has read the story, so it's great for him to hear it as well :)

The story centers around Almanzo and his brother Royal and his sisters Eliza Jane and Alice. (Laura his eldest sibling was 22 and living elsewhere and his youngest sibling Pearly Day was not yet born). Almanzo's love of horses is a center theme of the book which takes you through the seasons in a farmer boy's year. What amazes me is the lack of waste back then. Nothing was wasted. Oat straws were used to make summer hats, apple cores were saved to make vinegar, ashes were saved to make lye soap, and the fat from the pig slaughter is used to make tallow for candles and other uses.Unlike the Ingalls family, Almanzo's were for their part quite well off. They had large barns, a nice house with a parlor, upstairs bedrooms, and an icehouse. The farm sat on a large track of fertile farmland. Father bred driving horses as well as farming and Mother wove cloth for the clothing they wore. If you read just one chapter.... read "Keeping House". Such a funny story unto itself it will make you want to read the whole story. In conclusion, a delightful book from my childhood that can now be shared via Kindle.

Although I should most probably relate to Laura being female and also raised on the prairie, I truly relate to Almanzo more. From age six forward, all I wanted was horse of my own, and later one I could gentle and train myself. And eventually the dreams became reality. Now I have seen my youth and prime adult years come and go, and as i reread this beloved book in front of the fire as the snow fell outside of the farmhouse I now own, I am transported back to the first time I read the book, when Almanzo and I shared a dream and am reminded dreams really do come true. Please share this series with any child you love so they can know it too.

I borrowed these from my Grandma as a teenager and read them and fell in love. I soon got my own set of books but it gives me great pleasure to have them on my kindle and give my beloved books a rest. I love these books and they are timeless classics. I love the color illustrated pictures on the kindle it gives the story even more life. Farmer Boy is my favorite of the books.

Loved it. Fun and interesting. Seemed a bit short to me, but still enjoyable. Ages 10- and up. I do suggest, but you should read the first one first.Don't listen to the people who say it's boring because it's definitely not. It just for older kids. Please don't make reviews saying "my 5 year old got bored" of course they would they're 5 at least wait till they can read on their own.Kids 10+ it's great. Girls may like it more.

These books were read over and over to me as a child and remain some of my favorite as a parent. I purchased this one for my own kids and they love the pictures throughout the book. The story itself is so well-written and so easy to fall in love with at any age. At 3 & 5 years old my kids love to sit and listen to a chapter or two, in a few years I'm sure they'll enjoy reading them on their own!

I've always loved this book, ever since I was a kid. I re-read it from time to time just to bring back the old days. It really brings to life the way people lived early in our countries history. The amount of work people did then just to have the basics of life never ceases to amaze me.
