The formatting of the Kindle version of this book is terrible. In order to check the answers to exercises, you have to go to the back of the book which is fine if there are page numbers but since the Kindle version of this book has no page numbers, you have to go to the answers to exercises section and simply look at EVERY page until you find the one with the answers to the exercise you were doing. There is a also a browser style back button but no forward button. The fact that there are no page numbers and this, no way to find a specific page except by eyeballing each one and then writing down the location on PAPER in case you need it later (there is no copy and paste functionality for doing this) makes this book grossly inferior to a paper product. In fact, a simple pdf scan would have had much better functionality than this e-book. Do NOT buy the Kindle version. It's formatting is terrible.There are a number of annoying errors in the book. For instance, one multiple choice question gives the same answer (-4) twice and does not have any answer choice with the correct answer (4) because the author apparently couldn't keep positive and negative signs straight and the editor didn't catch it. Another example is a solution in the answer key has 3 exponent x written as "3x" which obviously has a very different meaning.

The book was helpful but I found that the math drills and practice questions tested several things that the book never attempts to teach the reader. For example, I just ran into a problem that required rearranging a quadratic equation in a way that was never explained anywhere else in the book. Overall the math sections need more thorough explanations of the concepts tested on the GRE rather than a simple gloss over.As for the verbal section, it seems that the Princeton review did very little to change this section despite that portion of the GRE having been drastically revised over the years.

This was the only study aid I used to prepare for the GRE. The book focuses way more on building strategies to take the test and less on what you actually need to study. In my experience, I read all of the math refresher chapters to "re-learn" the math concepts yet it did not actually prepare me for the formatting of the questions. What I needed were explanations on how to figure out what the questions were actually asking me, because ETS loves to mask an easy question with a bunch of obstacles or convenient answer choices that are actually wrong. I studied all of the math sections in this practice book, yet my quant score did not improve.I also feel as if the book repeats itself a lot and wastes time trying to reassure readers that if you read this chapter you'll be a "pro" on the actual test. If you actually want to read this book cover to cover, it will take you over 30+ hours to do it. If I could go back, I would spend money on a better practice book that would actually improve my scores.

I just started using this book and let me tell you. Forget about Kaplan and all the others because this is the only book you need. What distinguishes this book from the others is how coherent it is and how it follows from one point to another. Going through this book has helped me see that the GRE is just a test that anyone can overcome with practice. The book is thorough and so far the strategies it gives are amazing.I 100% recommend this book

I have bought the 2014 and now the 2016 version of this book. The same problem with the 2014 where the link to the update posted under "Keeping you Up-to-Date does not work, except for the 2016 version also promises and index along with the update. I just wrote to the author directly since I got nowhere on Princeton Reviews website and asked him for help. I hope he can give me the proper link. Without the update link, nor the index, I can not see rating this book more than 3 stars.

I bought the same book 2015 edition last year. And I know there have been changes in rules regarding to "base income year" and others, but was not sure of the details. The changes took place early in the year, so I ordered the updated 2016 edition with full hope and expectation to find new information. However to my very disappointment, the new edition is exactly the same as old one on that topic. And where in book it listed a website to view new updates on Princeton Review site did not direct to right place.

This book was well worth the investment. It is clearly laid out and organized. It does well with reviewing the content of the test. However, what was best about the book is that it teaches you HOW to take the test with really clear strategies. The examples and practice tests are helpful, as well as explanations of the answers and how to get them quickly and efficiently. I’m very happy I got this review book!

I bought last years' copy of this book after reading an older copy from the library. I wanted my own copy so that I would have access to the most recent calculation process to determine "Expected Family Contribution" (EFC) under the "Institutional Methodology" (IM) and the "Federal Methodology" (FM).In the current version of this book, though, they have dropped the instructions for calculating EFC under the IM. Instead, the book substitutes some case studies, which are pretty much worthless. Shame on The Princeston Review for caving in to the whims of the College Board. Now somebody else needs to do the work they didn't do to get the IM formulas into the light of day again.If you're a first timer, you need to read this book, or one like it. But once you've got the basic scheme understood, there's no need to buy the new version of this book every year. If you're an old hand, and you want the most recent FM formulas to calculate your EFC, just go to the Princeton Review web site and tack-on "financialaidupdate" and you can see the FM formulas.

About the Author

Stuart A. Rice received his master's and doctorate from Harvard University and was a Junior Fellow at Harvard for two years before joining the faculty of The University of Chicago in 1957 where he remains a well-known theoretical chemist who also does experimental research and is currently the Frank P. Hixon Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus at The University of Chicago. Professor Rice has served the university in a wide variety of capacities during his forty-eight year tenure. He served as the director of the James Franck Institute (the university's center for physical chemistry and condensed matter physics) from 1961 to 1967, was Chairman of the Department of Chemistry from 1971 to 1976 and was Dean of the Physical Sciences Division from 1981 to 1995. In 1999 he received the National Medal of Science.In addition to his work at the University, he is currently on the Board of Governors at Argonne National Laboratory, managed by and affiliated with The University of Chicago, as well as Tel Aviv University. That’s 10e-15 seconds, or a thousandth of a trillionth of a single second. Light at 186,000 miles per second (3e8m/s) travels just 1/100,000th of a centimeter in that time. I actually found this book very helpful in learning Spanish. The comics are a bit cheesy, and definitely set in the 90s, but each one focuses on the new thematic material being learned. The exercises are there to help you apply what you just learned, and they come in a variety too. Along with writing exercises in each chapter, there are also speaking exercises you can do with a partner or group, as well as listening exercises. I love how it also gives you cultural insights as well, and highlights different Spanish speaking countries (or states with high population of Spanish speakers, like CA, TX, and FL). Unit 1 lets you get to know people in CA, Unit 2 takes place in Puerto Rico, Unit 3 in Mexico, Unit 4 in TX, Unit 5 in Spain (an Argentine family visiting Spain), Unit 6 in Florida, and Unit 7 in Spain (this time with a Spanish family). (I might be forgetting a unit, but you get the idea.)It has a Spanish-English dictionary in the back so that when you read a word in a comic, you can look up that Spanish word in the back to see what it means. I even went on to the DIME DOS book when I finished DIME UNO. I found it very easy to follow and understand, and the lessons always build on each other. It's a fun way to learn Spanish. By the way, in response to one low review on here, learning how to conjugate verbs is just a part of learning any foreign language. There's always memorization involved. But the verbs in DIME UNO are introduced slowly, and in multiple ways. You really have time to get those down before moving on.

Time tested lessons, work your way through this book and learning Spanish will be much easier.

Note: The following review has been provided by my younger brother:I've been taking Spanish for 3 years and this is by far the worst Spanish book I've ever read. The comics are dull, the exercises feel more like time wasters than actual lessons, and overall this book has taught me little if anything. It doesn't even have a English into Spanish Dictionary and it doesn't teach me anything I'd use in Mexico. If you want to know how to conjugate a bunch of verbs and fall asleep while trying to complete homework then this is your book, if you want a book that teaches you phrases in Spanish, definitely look somewhere else.

I used this as a teacher for many years. Our district got a new adoption thyat is not as well organized, nor are the videos as interesting. I still use the original videos in my class now that I have digitized them!

Very clear explanations, an excellent text, especially if you're studying this on your own. It parallels a course in Coursera's Algorithms specialization, so taking that course would give you lectures and assignments that are perfectly suitable to supplement this book. I highly recommend this book!

Wish it included Dynamic Programming as well though. It's an important technique in your toolkit especially for coding interviews. Any plans of doing a Part 3 focusing on backtracking, recursion and dynamic programming prof Rougharden?

I would recommend this book to anybody who study algorithms and data structures (either in universities or in professional life). Professor Tim Roughgarden has an outstanding talent and gift to explain complex things in a simple and clear way. The book is written in spirit similar to online courses developed by Tim Roughgarden, and it is great both as individual learning source, or in pair with MOOC.

I read part one, it was great, this edition is equally enjoyable.

I felt vaguely voyeuristic reading this. As if I intercepted a brutally personal letter between two estranged, but still loving family members. Which, at its heart, I suppose is exactly what it is. Still, while the journey is uniquely the author's, the candor and insight shared with the reader - even if none of us is the one for whom this memoir is written - is so nakedly honest, it's captivating. A lot of the subject matter is stuff I never knew or ever wondered about. Still, this Kate's-eye-view of her life's journey and the insights she picked up along the way, has something to resonate with nearly everyone... even if it's just the love of a parent for their child. I found it a rugged read in some parts, but that's my baggage. I have to commend the author for her brutal honesty and magnanimous, loving spirit. Even her recollections of her life and estrangement from Scientology seem more sadness than bitterness. Life lived, lessons learned. Namaste Kate.

I love Kate's story. I had no idea what to expect, because I didn't understand the complexities of gender that is so central to her story; I had no concept of Scientology outside Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes; and I've never been a cutter. But I still found myself relating so hard to this book, especially the desire to be cute and adored.Kate has such a charming humor and flowing writing style that makes the cities and people in her story come alive. With her honesty, she takes away the shame and sting of her darker thoughts and behaviors. Because as painful as the topics of suicide and cutting can be, I ended up inspired by her hope and courageous spirit as she grew brighter as a person after every low point.Just from what I knew of Kate, and from her "It Gets Better" video, I expected to fall for her in this memoir. And as smitten as I was through the whole story, her letter at the end completely captured me. If all parents could communicate with such empathy, love and sincerity to their children, well, this would be a lot kinder world to live in. I would give anything for my parents to have such genuine curiosity about my feelings and empathy for my place in life like Kate is offering to her daughter.Thank you, Kate, for sharing your story. Your book has a cherished spot on my bookshelf beside Urban Tantra.

This book is many things. A funny, sad, and nostalgic memoir. Revealing accounts of the Queer, S&M, and Scientology subcultures from the inside. An exploration of the inherent ambiguities that exist in gender and sexuality (and an outsider's take on the Queer Theory in academic studies of such topics). A frank discussion of other taboo topics like suicide and cutting. And most importantly, a narrative which brings these topics to life for the reader in a profound and sometimes disturbing way (depending on your perspective). For the uninitiated, the most shocking parts can be skipped (and the reader is given ample warning in at least one case). But the story as a whole is something I think just about anyone can relate to given enough patience, since it is still a story of the experiences and emotions that made Bornstein who she is, and that is something anyone can relate to. This joins Stone Butch Blues and Zami: A New Spelling of My Name on my list of books that have made me identify more with my queer brethren.

Excellent.But let me start out with what bothered me, which was the apparent levity in which she treats her eating disorders and the desire to cut. S&M - different issue - I'm not here to judge. Both anorexia and cutting are serious issues that should be treated (or at least acknowledged) as such.That being said, the apparent honesty and freshness in the way that she writes is amazing. Mark Twain believed that no man could ever write a completely true biography in his lifetime -- or ever. Kate Bornstein has come as close as anyone ever will to doing that.I already knew that there are jackasses everywhere, but the passages relating to her being discriminated against at lesbian or feminism functions and the community just sadden me.Great for people with an interest in gender studies and LGBT rights/issues.

A fascinating read. Kate Bornstein has lead a twisty-turny life and weaves incredible humor and inspiration into harrowing ordeals. It is so interesting to get an insider view into the life of an influential thinker and social influencer such as Kate. An excellent selection for anyone going through difficult life circumstances especially around issues of identity, sexuality, spirituality, and career choices. Quite the coming of age tale.

Read this with my book club and we found no end of things to discuss. I'd read some excerpts from this author's previous book while in college and enjoyed them well enough. This book is pure memoir and covers so many topics (since the author has such a varied life path) that we had to call it a night before really exhausting the discussion. Amusing as an insider's tale of Scientology and intriguing as a discussion of transitioning genders.

It must have taken a lot of guts to write thismemoir. I learned a lot, especially to listen to someone whom I would have thought really "queer" a month ago--what a strong person Kate Bornstein must be. Congratulations! Why not five stars? The book was literally too personal: I got a lot of information about people who I will never meet, probably never hear of again and in whom I am not interested. Otherwise, a mind and heart expanding must.

I don't know how Kate did it but she took her life, filled with so many hardships, and turned it into the feel good hit of my bookshelf. If this was just a gender-bender bio it would still be great but it's also a terrific look of what it was like to serve under L. Ron Hubbard as he operated Scientology on the high seas to avoid being sent to any number of possible prisons in country after country where his UFO cult was seen as a scam. I was amazed at how many big sustained laughs she got out of me page after page.
