After buying the first Edward's Menagerie book, I was excited to see this one come out but surprised to see it so colorful. The first book created something very unique in the muted color palette, so I'm not sure how this will compare -- whether it will look like a collection like the mammals do. I still like the fact that all the standard forms are in one place. It's not that big a deal to flip back and forth between them. If it really bothers you, make copies of the standard forms pages and have them next to the instructions for any particular bird. The whole point of this (these) collections is that the body parts are all the same style, and that makes them unique. The author did a better job this time around of providing finishing instructions and other details. Read through the whole book (not including the patterns themselves) before diving in and it will make more sense. Same two complaints as last time: the book won't stay open on its own, and you're never told how much yarn you need to make each bird.I actually splurged on the Toft yarn. Had it shipped all the way to Texas from England, only to find out that one ball of pink is not enough to make the flamingo. The colored yarns come in much smaller put-ups than the naturals, so if you're going to use Toft yarn, make sure you get at least two of each color called for in the bird(s) you're making if you're doing more than one (ex: flamingo).But even if you aren't using the author's yarn, she still doesn't tell you how much you need for any of the sizes. I'm doing all of mine in the standard size. I definitely couldn't afford to use her yarn on the large or giant versions.Still it is a unique idea and format. I happen to like the stylized versions of the birds just as I do with the mammals. I expect the same thing with the forthcoming "Imaginarium" monster book, and have already pre-ordered it. If you want some of the author's creative patterns that aren't in this same style, visit her website -- thetoftalpacashop.co.uk -- where she has a new series of dogs that are excellent.

I am a beginning American crocheter, and this is a British book. Some thing you need to know--across the pond, a single crochet is called a double crochet. This info is buried in the technical section in the back of the book. Also, her directions "(dc2, dc2 next stitch) 6 times, 24 stitches", made no sense to me until I looked up how to do amigurumi rounds in an American book which spelled things out more clearly. I think that means "dc in next 2 stitches, then dc 2 in next stitch 6 times." Again, I'm a beginner, and maybe her directions make perfect sense to somebody else. But, for a beginner, prepare to be confused! Still, by using another book for reference, maybe I can make some of these cute birds.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!! I have just started crocheting and learned for the purpose of making these birds. The book is very good at explaining to how to crochet to a beginner. Also, the company, Toft, that put out the book has a series of videos that explains several of the steps and techniques. I have made one bird (see picture) and I am on my second bird. I plan to get the animal book from the series as well.

Here is picture of African Grey parrot with model I used. It was sent as a gift to a friend. In my haste, I did not write down what I did. It wasn't until others asked me for more that I realized my error. I went looking for crochet stuffed bird, specifically parrots. There aren't that many out there. I saw this book here on Amazon. I gave it a try. I made a parrot following directions in book. The body came out about the same. The legs, feet and beak are much better then what I did. The directions are easy to follow. Be aware that the crochet terms are British. So convert them to American to save yourself time. I am rating this 4 because of the way the pictures are positioned with the different types of feet and legs in Kindle edition. There is no name on picture page. So it is difficult to determine if the picture is before or after the directions.

Ugh! I love this book !so much! I started with the raven, and I'm working on the dove now. I'm excited to get started on the flamingo. These patterns are well written and fun to make. The little feet are so cute, and once you get the hang of it- easy. (I had to watch a Youtube video made by the author to get the hang of it.) Now I know I need to get my hands on the creature/monster book! **British crochet terms.**

A while back I ordered the first "Edwards Menagerie" book and I fell in love! There are so many amazing patterns and I absolutely love doing the patterns! So when I saw that there was a new book out I HAD to have it! and I love it so much! It's just as good as the first book! so many many beautiful toys that I just cant wait to make! it arrived very promptly and I was so excited to see it when I got it! It's a great book for a great price! I definitely recommend it!

I bought this book awhile ago and just recently made two birds. The patterns are well written and easy to follow. What I liked about this is that you don't have to use the recommended yarn in order to get good results. Also, you can use different weights of yarn to make a small to an extra large bird.

What can I say...I bought Kerry Lord's other Menagerie book and knew this was a must! I'm totally satisfied with my purchase and look forward to making most, if not all of the birds in this book.Great buy, and great attention to detail throughout the entire book.Awesome work Ms. Lord!

I wish that I had heard about this book years ago. As a former New Orleanian, I was reluctant to read another "outsider" dishing up sentimental goop about Katrina. But, Dan Baum, "gets it." He portrays the real city and its wildly varied denizens. His approach of following nine real citizens through their personal stories provides a view of New Orleans that tourists never see. The "characters" are amazing in themselves. His interviewing and reportorial skills morph into compelling human stories that define the term, "creative non-fiction." Think about it: who else do you know who has/had a personal relationship with a former King Of Rex, "Tootie Montana, Big Chief of the Wild Magnolias" Mardi Gras Indians and a jazz musician who is also the Orleans Parish coroner??I fell in love with New Orleans all over again.

I chose this book because I love to read about New Orleans and it's historyI had the pleasure of living there for about five years in the mid ninetiesI am originally from Scotland and was living in southern CaliforniaMy husband took a job down there where we stayed in furnished homes in the garden district uptown and across the river in algiers pointWhen we first arrived i thought it was a bit scary and dirty but after living there for some time it really got attached to that townIt is such a unique place with a European feel filled with history character and wonderful peopleI cried when we leftI feel the author has captured the feeling of new Orleans in such a thoughtful and beautiful way and it made me so sad to think that with Katrina the stories history and character of the place may now be goneIt has been one of my favorite books about the crescent city and I will always have very fond memories of my short time there where two of my son's were bornI read a lot and have never reviewed a book but i was so moved by this oneWonderful!

I am not sure how factual these stories are, or if they were embellished, but I thought the book was well written and it held my interest throughout. I have visited New Orleans several times to help rebuild in the Lower 9th Ward while staying at a church in Broadmoor/Freret. It was interesting to read the back stories of the nine people from different perspectives. I found myself looking at a map to see the neighborhood where each person lived. I don't know if a person who had never visited New Orleans would get it, but I sure did!

I wanted to read the book before having a personal visit with one of the "interview-ees" in the book. It was FANTASTIC. I have done alot of volunteeer time in the Lower 9th, both before, and after Katrina. This was a beautiful, stellar, could not wait to digest every word sort of book. Engaging, sharp, and forward-moving. It perfectly places you into that miasma of beauty, culture, uniqueness, and love/pain/sorrow/joy that it is, to be there, from there. I have re-read it ten times. It is in my top three of "go-to" books because, as a volunteer there, it speaks, and resonates on such a depp level. Dan Baum did an absolutely stellar job capturing time and place. A great read, and it tells the deep abiding love of place, sorrow of place, and redemption and abiding love of place. I absolutely loved every word , and highly recommend!

Fascinating novel about real and diverse New Orleanians: Offers a candid connection to what their lives were and are becoming. After visiting New Orleans, I became fascinated with its rich, international, brutal, gritty and glamorous way of living a life to its fullest. The truly unique citizens there squeeze every moment of joy and triumph out of their difficult lives to keep them going with love and pride in their city and communities. This book gave me a much deeper understanding of the tenacity it takes to hang on to a city so full of corruption and injustice because it is your home. Highly, highly recommend!

This was an excellent study of the unique city of New Orleans. Nine very different individuals were the focus and all recounted life before Katrina (most decades before it), during the storm, and soon afterwards. Their love of their city regardless of their economic/social standing shone through. The presentation of this book is similar to John Berendt's Midnight In the Garden of Good and Evil and Studs Terkel's Working and The Good War.

Nine Lives is a beautiful story that follows the lives of nine New Orleanians. It starts in the 60's, when Hurricane Betsy was the "big storm" of the time. I've always heard of Betsy growing up, how devastating it was and how my grandpa had to rescue his 5 kids out of their house by walking with each one on his shoulders through the murky water.The story then meanders through events in each person's life passing years and decades, it's a little hard to keep up with the characters at first but once they're introduced and you know their back story, it's hard to put the book down.Then there's Katrina. This part was really hard for me to read (through tears) but it was heartbreaking and very moving.The characters are all real people that the writer had met while covering Katrina for The New Yorker. A stoic Mardi Gras Indian chief, a transsexual bar owner, a coroner, these are but a few of the people we read about. I understand that this book is currently being developed into a musical for Broadway. I hope that happens because these stories should be heard.

This book is one of the best--and longest--nonfiction books I've ever read! At first, skipping between characters' stories made it difficult to remember who was who, but it got easier the further I got into the book. What I liked best about the book was getting to know about New Orleans from people who are natives, how their outlook on life was determined by being raised there. The concept of living for the present is foreign to me, a WASP from the Midwest, but I can see how it can be appealing! Thank you, Dan Baum, for this insight!!

OK, I received this book on time and in good condition. I've read about half the book and scanned the various sections as well. This book is very well-written and easy to understand and provides the reader a good foundation to proceed to the next chapters. I Recommend This Book YesI first read this book when I was 13. It was quite powerful then and I am happy to see that it still is, to me at least. How a young preacher could accomplish so much based entirely on faith is really amazing. This book was a joy to read. Just enough romance and suspense to keep you wanting to read it to the end. Then when it was over, I didn't want it to end.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. Noah Armstrong was a family handsome and successful movie star. Lauren taught a few classes at the junior college and helped with her parents Big Cat Sanctuary in New York. Noah showed up on day at the sanctuary with his grandmother requesting a tour. His grandmother had worked with lions in Africa and was no struggling with Alzheimers. Noah hoped this visit would bring some joy into her life. Little did he know that from the moment he saw Lauren, that joy might become a part of his life, too.This story was a clean romance with no sex or foul language, just a beautiful romantic story about true love. Noah was a good person mostly untainted by the celebrity status he possessed. Lauren was a down to earth girl and Noah loved the goodness he saw in her. The more he got to know her, the more he wanted to spend forever with her.I was given a complimentary copy of this book and I gladly offer a review.

I received an ARC of this book. It is book 2 in a series and can be read as a stand alone. I did read book 1 first and I enjoyed it so much. I loved this book as well and now eagerly await book 3 Paisley's story. I have read all of Emma Kingsley's books and have thoroughly enjoyed all of them. My favorite book so far is Legal Love: Billionaire Romance. Thanks Emma for the many hours of reading pleasure you have given me!

This is probably the most powerful book baal has ever written and he knows this to be fact ,so powerful he did not include the wealth mantras that would make a person rich,although this book is mostly about lovers,husband ,wifes,and other people to get what you want ,it is still a very powerful book and highly recommended ..I would recommend these mantras to any love spell ever given for I feel these are by far more powerful but I feel something is missing here ,i know the beads are very important in mantra chanting however I have read a picture of the om in Sanskrit or the original text in Sanskrit are used in the temples for maximum energy power....I would recommend the reader to use these powerful mantras but also do a LITTLE research online and incorporating the extra steps he learns into the changing ,also as baal repeats at the end of his book 108 times a day is the preferred method until you have reached upwards to 10000 although there are instances I have read by another author and yes baal does repeat this also where a person has repeated a mantra over 10000 times in one sitting and he did achieve siddhi and he was done but the same person repeat another mantra only 108 times and does this one 108 times in a daily basis at 4am when he rises.....So I do commend baal in writing this book and even giving you the extra secrets that he gives at the end and these secrets are a key to these mantras so use them ....As he mentions these mantras are hard to come by and he is exactly right that at his writing there was only one other book that mentions them and still maybe only a few after this writing so this alone makes this book highly profitable to any persons library!!!!

Baal Kadmon presents a refreshing approach to magick. After this one, I am hooked. I have most his books now and have had great results with his workings. No BS, just what is needed. Don't be put off by the simplicity.

The mantras are VERY powerful. Some happen within hours.Wish there's more in-depth explanation. Book looks rushed, misspelled and have many typos.Some mantras don't even indicate how many times it is to be chanted.

I love this book of Vashikaran Mantra. It's really powerful. I tried the mantra to control someone and it worked! I chanted the mantra the whole day and seen a slight result, so I decided to recite another whole day and it got stronger. So I did another day which in total 3 days in a row! It worked!

I have to say this is a very quick read. Explains some things about mantras and how to use them. I would purchase the ebook and save on the cost.

Nice booklet and learning something new putting it to the test will add to review once outcome happens

Great guide for joining gyms and/or hiring a trainer

This book is helpful and well written. I knew of the author's background in fitness and felt comfortable that this information would be current and accurate. I purchased the book to help me in deciding what to look for in a personal trainer. I am armed now with what I need, to ask questions, and what to look for in this important decision. Being over 50 and overweight with knee and hip issues I needed to find the right fit for me. This book really steered me in the right direction. I need to get on a exercise program I can live with and a trainer who understands that. This book helped with what to look for. It also confirmed and reinforced in doing things correctly and finding the right program or trainer for me. It was eye opening, refreshing and informative, if you are over 50 and lost and in need of a fitness regime-- this will give you direction you can count on. I wish the author would have spent more time in the strength chapter, otherwise, very helpful. 4 stars.

I found this book to be very informative. I have exercised off and on all my life, consider myself to be pretty active. I have belonged to gyms all my adult life, and have been doing pretty much the same workout routine for the past several years. Although I feel pretty fit, I am certainly not fit enough, and I believe now that it's because of my workouts. I need to switch it up, and this book has helped me realize this. The author does a great job combining her knowledge of fitness with her knowledge of healthy eating habits. I am approaching my sixties and this will help me move into the next decade with my workout routine. I highly recommend this to anyone over 50 wanting to remain actively fit, getting fit, or continuing with their current fitness program.

This book was a bit of a shock. I have hired personal trainers before and they didn't relay the same content here. I'll be much more careful next time. Based on the research included in the book I don't think I had the best exercise program for my goals and am not surprised I wasn't inspired to continue. Some of the videos in the back section of book are for much older and less fit people than the chapters in the book but overall good read. I'd have paid more for a trainer who gave the kind of service included here.

So I have been fairly lucky and been coasting for a LONG time in my "sometimes workouts" and with no coach since I didn't want to risk paying someone who didn't know how to deal with my back and neck problems. Had no idea how to find the right person.This book has great info to steer that as well as all he other fitness decisions and plans. I am at that brink of losing ability to function in so many actvities if I procrastinate any longer. I am ready to find a fitness professional and movements and actvities that will help me enjoy this phase of my life. Huge amount of info, well-written particularly for us with Boomer minds & bodies.
